The Lonesome Electric Chicken is a computer application developed by J Schilling for Macintosh. It is a simple little program that occupies no more than a few hundred kilobytes and doesn’t need many resources to work.

The reason behind its small size is the simplicity of the program itself. Featuring a graphic image of, well, a chicken, the application shows different quotes from various sources. The developer of this little program did not intend for it to do very much else.

At the time there are around 70 different quotations in the chicken pile taken from a variety of sources, including Nietzsche. The author himself specified that the Lonesome Electric Chicken is a ‘time and life wasting application’.
