Yes, this is the boring web site of John M. Schilling from Minneapolis, Minnesota Oakland, California. This site contains information about the work I do (Macintosh application development), my nerdy hobbies (snake keeping and Macs), my friends (both of them), my cats, and who I am. Please feel free to look around and be glad that there are people in this world who lead more boring lives than yourself.
What happened to StimpSoft, you ask? I "retired" it back in 2002. I was thinking about starting it up again, but it's too much work to have to go through all my apps and replace "John Schilling" with "StimpSoft™, Inc." everywhere. Besides, Stimpy passed away, so, you know. It's still all "StimpSoft" software, anyway.
What's new at jschilling.net...
1/15/2008: So what's going on? No new software, things are broken... well, I haven't been programming in a couple of years, I can't afford a new Intel Mac, let alone Leopard, and I'm unemployed. So it may be a long time for any updates. Also, the method I have been using for fetching data over the internet (NSURLConnection) is broken in Leopard, and Apple hasn't provided a fix yet. Henk vanBruggen found that if I use my NSURLConnection as a synchronous connection, it will work, but blocking isn't an option for Solscape and other apps (imagine Solscape grinding to a halt until every single picture is downloaded. That's what Synchronous vs. Asynchronous means). Anyway, Bwanadik is fixed, so email Henk with your thanks (hvanbrug@hvanbrug.com). In the meantime, I'm going to have to try to find another job so I can get a new Mac with Leopard, but that wont be easy. Being out of the loop for so long puts me at a severe disadvantage.
Plus, two years ago, I was diagnosed with Meniere's disorder, making traveling very, very difficult.
10/31/2006: I started a new job last week. Man, I really need to redesign this site, and make it easier to add new items to this page more often, but I don't have a lot of free time now. Software updates will be less frequent, too.
8/2/2006: My first attempt at breeding snakes is starting out very well...
7/7/2006: Well, I'm with a new web hosting service now. Things seem much speedier, and there are a lot more options with this company. I think it may be time to redesign the site and add some fun PHP automation.
6/12/2006: Wow. A very, very generous fan, Paul R., just donated a significant sum of cash. I'm are back online with 250gb of yummy throughput. Thanks Paul!
6/12/2006: Whelp, guess what? Less than two weeks back online and I've already blown out my .Mac bandwidth. Yay. Can't afford more space right now, so feel free to donate more cash if you wish.
6/5/2006: I've finally purchased some .Mac space, thanks to everyone who donated to the cause. Some universal binary stuff is up now, with more to come soon. The flakiness of my software availability is partially due to the fact that I do this purely for the fun of it, so poo on you.
